Over 71 million American citizens are regular recipients of Social Security benefits; some of them, who get disability benefits are likely to have their March paychecks in this week. In the meantime, SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits had already been issued last week.
Social Security Payment Dates
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has published the calendar of payments in 2026, which can be viewed on the Internet. The regular Social Security retirement income is being given out as per the plan of the SSA. Wednesday will be the day when the initial payments of the month of March will be distributed.
People who started collecting their payments before May, 1997 or those who collect both social security and SSI would have been paid on Tuesday, March 3.
Conversely, for retirees and disability beneficiaries who began receiving payments after May 1997, the March payment schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, March 11 — Birthdays falling between the 1st and the 10th of the month
- Wednesday, March 18 — Birthdays falling between the 11th and the 20th of the month
- Wednesday, March 25 — Birthdays falling between the 21st and the end of the month
Why No SSI Payments in March 2026?
SSI payments are normally made at the beginning of each month. But when it is a weekend or a holiday then the payment is sent earlier. The SSI payment on March was dispatched on February 27 since March 1st, 2026, is on a Sunday.
Any SSI payments to be made in 2026 which would have otherwise been made on a weekend or a holiday have been already provided in advance: the payment in January was made in December 2025, and the payment in February will be made in January 2026, and the payment in April will be made on April 1. Thus, there will not be any SSI checks distributed in the month of March. ### SSI Payment Schedule 2026

Taxes on Social Security Benefits

Social Security benefits might be taxable depending on income. The SSA states that on individuals whose combined income is between 25,000 and 34,000, the benefits could be taxed by up to 50 per cent; those having over 34,000 (44,000 among couples) could be taxed up to 85 per cent.
The standard deduction under new federal tax provisions in 2026 has been raised and the seniors have been allowed an extra deduction which could leave some retirees with fewer taxable income.
